Introduction

The Kepler conjecture is a very famous geometric conjecture. It discusses how to stack small balls with the same radius without overlapping in three-dimensional space to maximize the stacking density. Its general description is the ball stacking problem and the kissing problem. This type of problem involves the combination of numbers and graphics, and it is very difficult to solve it perfectly. But the tools needed are not too difficult; As long as it takes one to three months, excellent undergraduate students can initially master it. Gauss, Minkowski, and others have done groundbreaking work in this area, followed by Delsarte's linear programming method, which provides a breakthrough in new tools; In recent years, there have been new breakthroughs in this direction, in the top mathematical journal Ann of Math., There are several related papers on the Journal of A.M.S. The progress of this issue is also a model of the close combination of pure mathematics and applied mathematics. I will introduce its basic issues, related tools, progress, and some open questions.
